How to get into a UNIX shell account:
Using a telnet, rlogin or ssh client:
Telnet clients are available for all platforms, and come with almost any UNIX operating systems.
Note: Most Windows Operating Systems come with Telnet but not SSH. "OS X" and beyond for Macintosh include telnet and SSH via the administrative console
Ssh clients are highly recommended over telnet and rlogin clients for security reasons. Please see the ssh home page for more information on getting a client for your operating system.
- Connect to
shell.binary.net using your favorite telnet, rlogin or ssh application.
- At the
login: prompt type your Binary Net username. If you are a virtual host account holder -- use username of the shell account, that corresponds to your virtual host. Please contact support@binary.net if you are not sure what your username is.
- At the
Password prompt type your password.
- You will see a screen full of system messages, message of the day, etc., and you will be given a shell prompt, that looks like this in the default configuration:
ravine 1%
- This is a shell prompt. You are now logged into your account.
