Windows 95/98 DSL Setup
Dynamically Assigned IP (more info)
- From the Start button Select "Settings" then "Control Panel."
- Double-click on the "network" icon. This will bring up a dialogue box labeled "Network".
- Select the "Configuration" tab, and your network card and "TCP/IP" are listed in the Network Device box.
- Double-click on the TCP/IP line in the white box. This should bring up a window labeled "TCP/IP properties."
- Select the tab labeled "IP Address" and check "Obtain an IP address automatically".
- Select the "WINS" tab and "Disable WINS Resolution".
- Select the "Gateway" tab. No gateways should be installed.
- Select the "DNS Configuration" and enable DNS:
Host: Comp1
Domain: binary.net
Add two servers, in this order: "216.229.0.25", "216.229.0.6"
- Click OK to reboot your computer.
Static IP (more info)
- From the start button select Settings and Control Panel.
- Double-click on the "network" icon. This will bring up a dialogue box labeled "Network".
- Select the "Configuration" tab, and your network card and "TCP/IP" are listed in the Network Device box.
- Double-click on the TCP/IP line in the white box. This should bring up a window labeled "TCP/IP properties."
- Select the tab labeled "IP Address" and check "Specify an IP address". The IP address will be the one that was assigned to you and the subnet mask is the set of numbers 255.255.255.___ that was given to you.
- Select the "Gateway" tab and enter the same IP as your router.
- Select the "DNS Configuration" and enable DNS:
Host: Comp1
Domain: binary.net
Add two servers, in this order: "216.229.0.25", "216.229.0.6"
- Click OK and reboot your computer.
